Pure Acai
There has been a lot of buzz lately about how good pure acai is for you. With the general public, nutritionalists, doctors and scientists all joining in to sing the praises of acai, even going so far as to label it a superfood, there definitely seems to be a lot of evidence to support the claims of those of us who have been taking acai for years.
However, as is often the case, this wave of popularity has led some companies to bring shoddy, inferior products to the marketplace in a misguided effort to try and cash in on the craze. This is a shame, as the acai fruit is packed full of goodness and has the potential to be a boon to anyone looking to improve their healthy lifestyle.
From my experience, the beast acai products are made from pure acai, and not made with acai extracts. The reason why acai is described as a superfood is because it has so many different beneficial compounds together in one fruit. To start singling out and extracting these nutrients kind of misses the whole point.
Pure acai products are made directly from acai pulp, with no artificial preservatives and no methods of preparation which damage the complex compounds responsible for the health benefits of the fruit. For instance, it is well known that high temperatures damage vitamins and other complex organic molecules. So using ultra high temperatures on acai to try and preserve it undoes any benefits you could expect to get from it.
In my book, it’s ok to add other high quality nutritional products to the acai in order to improve its effect. For instance, some varieties of green tea are well known to help people lose weight. Acai has been shown to be effective in reducing hunger and people often experience an improved metabolism (i.e. can burn more energy more easily). So combining the two to make a diet product is a good idea.
A bad idea would be combining acai with caffeine. Yes, this seems like an obvious point, but the fact is that there are some companies out there that are doing just that. Caffeine is not good for you. Look at what it does to kids! So no, products containing caffeine are not pure acai products.
As you can see, there are a number of different points you need to look out for concerning the purity of acai products. You need to be prepared to do your homework and check up on any company you hear about to see if their product is any good. On this site, I hope to spare you some of this hard work by recommending to you the products that I trust and rely on.
